Shir Handelsman (b. 1989) is a visual artist based in Brussels. Handelsman explores the interruptions, emotional discord, and idiosyncrasies of human relationships through his multifaceted art practice, which includes video and film, sculpture, drawing, music, and sound. His works possess a performative quality, characterized by complex choreographies and musical compositions. Moving between sound installations, large-scale video projections, and kinetic sculptures, Handelsman’s art often embraces a grand, operatic scale. Handelsman holds a BA in Literature and Philosophy from Tel Aviv University, a BFA from Shenkar College's Department of Multidisciplinary Art, and an MFA from PXL-MAD School of Arts, Hasselt, Belgium. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art; Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, South Korea; Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen; ISCP, New York; Jerusalem Artist House; Center for Contemporary Art (CCA), Tel Aviv; Art Claims Impulse, Berlin; Art Madrid; Aesthetica Short Film Festival, York, UK; Video Art & Experimental Film Festival, New York. He has been an artist in residence at ISCP, New York; ACC Galerie, Weimar; and Kunstplaats Vonk, Hasselt. He is a grant recipient from Asylum Arts, with honors including the Best Experimental Film Award at the Budapest Independent Film Festival and the Grand Prix Award at the 27th Slavonian Biennial, Osijek.
